Recently, surveillance footage from a restaurant in China showing a woman getting beat up by a group of men went viral on social media.
It sparked discussions on violence and misogyny in the country.
When the footage spread on social media, people were understandably outraged.
Much of the discussion revolved around how none of the other male patrons in the restaurant helped the women.
Jackie Chan took to Weibo to share his thoughts on the incident.
He said, "The most heartbreaking thing was that out of all the people present,
only the ladies stood up to help each other while the men around them just stood there watching.
How could something like that happen in our country?!
In the movies I've filmed, we've always emphasized saying 'no' to violence, men are not supposed to hit women and a group of people should never gang up against one person."
While many netizens agreed with Jackie's take about the men standing around,
others disagreed, saying what were they supposed to do? There were nine men.
Another said that the price for playing hero is too high and that they would rather just report them.
