According to Sina, Deng Lun evaded taxes and has been ordered to pay 106 million RMB (approx 16.6 million USD) in back taxes and fines.
Shanghai tax authorities found that between 2019 and 2020,
Deng Lun made false declarations and evaded paying 47.65 million RMB and underpaid 14 million RMB in personal income taxes.
Deng Lun was said to be cooperative during the investigation and took the initiative to pay about 45 million RMB in back taxes.
He also reported other violations that the tax authorities hadn't yet found.
In total, he was ordered to pay 106 million RMB in back taxes, late fees, and fines.
Deng Lun issued an apology.
He said, "While cooperating with the tax authority's investigation, I deeply self-reflected and deeply realized my mistakes.
I accept all decisions from the tax authorities.
I am willing to accept all responsibility and consequences and I will continue to work hard as always.
I'm deeply sorry for taking up public resources during the pandemic."
It's also been reported that Deng Lun's social media accounts in China have been removed.
As well, many brands he endorsed have ended their relationships.
