In November 2016, Jiang Ge was brutally murdered outside her Tokyo apartment.
A Tokyo court convicted her roommate Liu Xin's ex-boyfriend Chen Shifeng, and sentenced him to 20 years in prison.
But for Jiang Ge's mother, justice was again served on Monday.
The court in Qingdao reached the verdict, requiring Liu Xin to compensate $109,000.
Before the murder, Liu had broken up with Chen and moved in with Jiang Ge.
Returning home one day, Liu entered the apartment and locked the door, leaving Jiang to be stabbed to death.
In 2019, Jiang's mother sued Liu for $313,800 in compensation for financial loss and mental anguish.
As someone who was helped by the victim but endangered her life, the defendant Liu failed to remind Jiang and protect her safety.
When faced with the immediate danger of Chen's assault, Liu put others lives at risk for self-preservation and kept Jiang Ge from entering her own home, causing her death.
She's at fault and must bear legal liability.
After the verdict, Jiang spoke to reporters.
The topic of the case has trended among three million Sina Weibo users.
Some have expressed condolences to the Jiang's family, and that justice will prevail.
