The Foreign Ministry today confirmed that China has received the visa applications from U.S. officials to attend the Beijing Winter Olympics.
According to the South China Morning Post, the U.S. government recently submitted applications for three-month visas
with a list of 18 personnel to attend the Games to provide 'security support operations'.
The U.S. may submit another 40 officials to China in the next few months, according to the report.
Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said China will process the applications according to international practice, relevant regulations and the principle of reciprocity.
Zhao also called on the U.S. to stop politicizing sports and stop interfering with the Beijing Winter Olympics.
The Chinese side has received visa applications from U.S. personnel.
Earlier, the US side, driven by political manipulation,
directed and staged a farce of not sending a diplomatic or official government delegation to the Beijing Winter Olympics, even though no invitation had been extended.
