A Chinese passenger plane caught fire after an aborted takeoff in the southwestern city of Chongqing on May 12.
China's Tibet Airlines' official Weibo account stated that at about 8 a.m. local time,
the plane's cockpit crew noticed an abnormality and halted takeoff flight number TV9833.
The plane then veered off the runway before catching fire.
At the time, there were 113 passengers and 9 crew members on board.
During the evacuation, 36 passengers suffered minor injuries.
The flight was due to fly to Nyingchi in Tibet.
Images posted on the Internet reveal tire marks on the runway.
Videos from the scene show thick smoke billowing from the scene. Some passengers could be heard shouting while trying to escape the plane.
