一.murder：n.谋杀, 谋杀案,<俚>要命的事 vt.谋杀, 糟蹋, 损坏 vi.谋杀
【词义辨析】
kill, murder, slaughter, massacre, assassinate, execute
这些动词均有“杀、杀死”之意。
kill普通用词，含义广泛，泛指以任何方式使人、动物或植物死亡。
murder指谋杀或凶杀。
slaughter本义指大批宰杀动物，也指像屠宰牲畜一样一次杀死许多人。
massacre语气比slaughter强。指大屠杀，尤指屠杀失去了自卫能力的人。
assassinate通常指因政治原因用非法手段杀害政治领袖人物或知名人士。
execute指依法处死罪犯。

【语法用法】
一般来说，要表达引起某人对某事的注意时，用call/draw one's attention to。表示用某事引起某人注意时，用bring the matter to one's attention，注意两者不可倒过来使用。
He wants to call her attention to the matter.
他想引起她对这事情的注意。
不可以说I want to bring his attention to the matter.
pay attention to是固定的搭配词组，不可以用其他介词替换，如pay attention on。除了指“注意”，pay attention to还指“向女子献殷勤”，如pay his attentions to the girl.要注意his后的attentions用的是复数形式；
有时候pay attention to后不直接加宾语，而是加动名词，to作为介词。
I advise you to pay more attention to recording new uses of old words.

为引起大机关或大商店的某人或某部门注意，在写信时可在称呼语后面或后面的下一行或两行加Attention of ...，如Attention of Accounting Department。
