We begin with China lodging a case against the United States with the World Trade Organization over American import duties. The Chinese Commerce Ministry says the latest tariffs hikes violate the consensus reached by leaders of China and the US in late June. The ministry says China will firmly defend its legal rights under WTO rules. It says it is taking action to protect the multilateral trading system. The United States began imposing 15% additional tariffs on a variety of Chinese goods on Sunday including footwear, smart watches and flat-panel televisions.
