The state council has approved major administrative decision adjustment in eastern Shandong Province, the prefecture-level city of Laiwu and all those areas under its jurisdiction of now being assigned to the adjacent city of Jinan, which is the provincial capital. In other words, Laiwu now becomes a district of Jinan bringing its total number of districts to ten and Jinan’s over area is now over ten thousand square kilometers. It has a population of 8.7 million people. The secretary-general of Shandong province spoke about the reasons for the adjustment Wednesday. The readjustment of administrative regions is to give full play to the comparative advantages of both cities through integrated planning and scientific cooperation.
