China has tightened its laws on the purchase, production and selling of endangered animals in a bid to crack down on the illegal trade. A revised Animal Law will take affect on January 1, 2017. The Law in general prohibits the sale, purchase, or use of rare or near-extinction wild animals, and their products, that are under special national protection.

It's estimated that China's captive breeding industry is worth 1.3 billion dollars a year. The law also stresses that wild animals shall not be mistreated. The top ten endangered animals in China are the Giant Panda,White-Flag Dolphin,Golden Snub-nosed Monkey, South China Tiger, Crested Ibis, Brown-Eared Pheasant,Yangtze Alligator, Black-necked Crane, Tibetan Antelope and Pere David's Deer.
