Chinese President Xi Jinping has presented China's top science award to radar expert Liu Yongtan and military engineer Qian Qihu for their outstanding contributions to scientific and technological innovation. The president Xi gave them their medals and certificates at an annual ceremony in Beijing that honors distinguished scientists and engineers. Premier Li Keqiang delivered a speech on behalf of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. He said China has achieved considerable progress in science and technology over the past 40 years of reform and opening-up. But he said the country needs to give full play to the row of innovation if it is to maintain the momentum of progress. Premier Li called for more research and deeper institutional reform and support for enterprises ability to innovate. The prize for the top science award is now eight million yuan up from 5 million yuan only last year.
