China has launched a nationwide campaign to repair old and shabby buildings that have safety hazards, as the rainy season has begun.
Local governments are urged to screen old and unsafe buildings, following a series of house collapse accidents in the country recently.
Three buildings collapsed in southwest China's Guizhou Province, killing dozens of people. A ceiling broke down at a spa in north China's Tianjin city, leaving six people dead.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development also called to increase fiscal spending on renovation of unsafe buildings, and suggested the participation of private capital.

This is NEWS Plus Special English.
Police involved in violent incidents on the job should use their guns according to law so as to ensure their own safety while safeguarding the people's security.
China's Public Security Ministry has urged police departments nationwide to strengthen skill training targeting violent crimes.
The ministry said police officers should be fully armored when handling riot emergencies on the spot.
In May, a police officer in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province shot a defiant suspect in the heart and killed him at a railway station. The incident triggered nationwide discussion on the legitimacy of the officer's use of his gun. Later, an investigation into the case justified the behavior of the officer, who claimed he had never meant to shoot the man in the heart.
The ministry has asked police authorities to intensify their effort to crack down on crimes related to the production and trafficking of guns and explosives.
