Dinner dates usually mean romantic environment, good food and interesting conversation. But at one New York eatery, conversation is off the menu. You can hear the sound of utensils on plates, water pouring, soup being served and sipped. But no voices. That's because during certain dinner hours, no talking is allowed in the restaurant.

The restaurant is called 'Eat' and it's in the trendy Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn.

Chef Nicholas Nauman got the idea from a trip abroad. He said when he spent some time in a Buddhist monastery in India as a college student, he had silent breakfast every day. After coming back to Brooklyn, he wants to let diners focus on the food he cooks and to relax. He believes that it will offter the diners a really simple opportunity to have a break from the loud, crazy, totally overwhelming reality that is New York City.

It's a fixed price menu that starts at 8pm. So after people place their orders, there is no talking until the four course meal is over. For some, it was very romantic. Others were contemplative. One dinner commented: "I was probably concentrating more on food than otherwise. But I was happy there was no conversation." Another dinner was not so sure. She said that at some point in the middle she kind of had the desire to play with her friend. But she didn't know if her friend wanted the silence to be interrupted.
