The car that was used as a weapon crashed outside Parliament. Cctv captures it swerving into the wrong lane, hitting cyclists, then heading for the most heavily-guarded building in Britain. Two police officers jumping out of its speeding path. In my opinion, the person knew what they were doing. Armed police surrounded the car, the driver hauled out and handcuffed.
He's 29, British, born overseas. We are treating it as a terrorist incident. It happened just yards from last year's vehicle attack that killed five. This driver also, it appears, acting alone. Police are now searching the man's car. They have found no weapons and they're searching for a motive. He wasn't on any British terror watch list. This, another frightening reminder of the terrorist threat.
Officers have raided several properties in the capital and are following up new lines of inquiry after the release of CCTV footage showing two men entering the store in New Bond Street.
They tried to handcuff him but, despite his injuries, he fought his way free.
We had very little information on him, but we knew what he looked like because he had been on a watch list for some time.
