To Australia, where residents across large parts of the east coast braced for increased fire conditions on Tuesday, with searing heat and high winds expected to spread scores of already burning bushfires, threatening residential areas. Millions of people across New South Wales and Queensland were subject to a seven-day state of emergency, imposed by officials on Monday. Locals in areas deemed most at risk were urged to evacuate while they could. Up to 600 schools were closed across the two states, as well as many national parks. The fires are respected to worsen with high temperatures and strong winds forecast later on Tuesday.
