Saudi Arabia granted a robot named Sophia citizenship last week during the future investment initiative tech summit. This mark makes the Sofia the first robot in the world to receive such a status.

After hearing the news, Sophia said she was proud and honored to receive the distinction and called the decision historical. Sophia was created by Hong Kong-based robot manufacturer Hanson Robotics. Its creater David Hanson said humanoid robots like Sophia will be used to provide simple and useful services in the new future.
