after all about 20 subjects I studied

there were couple of them that got pregnant

and they loved coming to the sleep lab

I found out, I thought I was studying women

ignoring the first night with all these equipment on

because that's an adaptation at the laboratory

What I found out was they loved coming to the lab

because it was a recovery

from a sleep deprivation they had at home

They could come into the lab when they wanted to

They could go to bed when they wanted to turn the light out

I was out in the other room

with a little bell that they could ring

and I could come in and help them

And they can get up when they wanted it

and they didn't have to contend with the snoring spouse

the barking dog, the noise in the streets

They loved coming to the lab

so I was really studying the recovery

from chronic sleep deprivation at home

Then we were able to move to home

to do a lot of sleep studies with ambulatory monitoring

and we set things up

and work it through at home

and we could put all the electros on

and then in the morning they could take it all off and leave

leave it behind and we came and picked it up later

I've done this now for many many years

and we've even done with pregnant women and postpartum women

the little babies 1 or 2 months old

don't pull the wires off

I really did get great data from these kinds of studies

in the natural environment

where everything else was going on with them

We did a poll

talking about last week's polls that you are all curious about

but this is Sleep in America Poll

from the National Sleep Foundation
