One evening I was invited to dinner by a young man I had a crush on, a trumpeter. I was 17, and this was my first big date. There were candles and flowers on the table, and soft music playing in the background. Although the conversation was all about music, I was desperately in love as only a 17-year-old can be, so I didn't mind. After we had finished our dinner, my companion leaned across the table, looked into my eyes and smiled. "You have a beautiful mouth, Katherine." I waited, my heart beating faster. "I bet you could play the trumpet."
