Alice : What are you cooking，Lumming?

What are you cooking?

Luming : Nothing. It's a little earlier for me to cook myself for supper.

Alice : You are always giving me an irrelevant answer! (All of a sudden, it comes to Alice's mind that "What are you cooking" is just popular in America.) Oh , I get it, you don't catch the sentence "What are you cooking?" It means "What's matter?"

Lumming : I've got three essays to do by tomorrow. And I forget to pay my rent and I cannot find my ID card. What am I going to do?

Alice : Just chill out——It's not such a big problem. It is a long road that has no turning.

Lumming : Chill...out? The sun beats down on us. The temperature outside is much higher than inside.

（心理疑惑：chill是使......变凉的意思，out是外面的意思，难道不成是叫我去外面凉快一下。）现在酷日当头。外面的温度比室内温度高很多呀。

Alice : Well, I don't ask you to enjoy the cool. "Chill out" means "to relax, calm down or take it easy".

哎...... 我不是叫你去外面乘凉。Chill out是放松，从容不迫，冷静，不烦躁的意思。

解析： 这句话在美国现在很盛行，用来打招呼。就像我们常说的喂，干什么了？说得更地道点就是嘿，你在搞什么把戏。这个翻译很形象，我们在烹饪的时候，有盐，味精，酱油，各种各样的菜，我们将其精心调制配制，就可作出美味的一道菜，就好像是在玩把戏。

2. Chill out!

解析：Chill out!在不同的语境下有不同的意思。我们很累了，这时候我们就要放松一下，可用之。还有我们大家都有这样的经理，在参加重大赛事上场前会紧张不安。当今生活、学习、工作压力都很大，就会担心某件事做不好事，我们就可以用Chill out用相互劝不要紧张，不要担心。

注解2：are always giving这个结构式现在进行时和频率副词连用，表示对某人一种讨厌，厌烦的情绪。

注解：do an essay：写文章 by tomorrow：到明天为止 pay one's rent：付房租费用 ID card：身份证（（ID=identification）

注解：这是中文谚语车到山前必有路的翻译。子面意思是没有拐弯的一条很长的路。就是比喻事情总会会顺利的。

注解：beat down：(太阳等)强烈地照射下来

再如：The blazing sun beats down in summer. 夏日骄阳似火。The sun beat down on him. 太阳照在他头顶上。

注解：enjoy the cool：乘凉
