【复习】

Last time we learned a sentence pattern which is : S order ( that ) S ( should ) do. 这个句式是表示某人命令某人做某事。由that引导的宾语从句使用的虚拟语气中的情态动词should可以省略，引导词that也可以省略。And some translation exercises were left last time and I'm about to be out with the answers to them.

【Exercise】I 政府要求对此事故进行调查。

【Translation 1】 The goverment has ordered that an investigation into the accident should be placed.
【Translation 2】The goverment has ordered an investigation into the accident be placed.

【喇叭】翻译2的宾语从句是使用了被动语态，因此当省略了should时，就是be动词的原型be。注意不要看到主句是现在完成时has ordered，就认为在宾语从句中使用一般现在时is.

【点评】

1 短语的使用：对......的调查 an investigation into something 进行调查 place an investigation .

2 中文句子是“对此事进行调查”，这里不是强调某个人“调查此事故”的“调查”这一个动作，而是强调“要调查此事故”这一件事情，因此最佳的翻译方式是使用被动语态进行翻译。

【Exercise】II 他们因斗殴被勒令退出课堂。

【Translation 1】It was ordered that they should be out of the class for fighting.
【Translation 2】It was ordered that they be out of the class for fighting.

【喇叭】翻译2中省略了情态动词should, 因此be动词用其原形be,不要看到主句是一般过去时was，则将be用作were.

【点评】
1 短语的使用：离开教室 be out of the class 有一个更好的动词短语是：drop out of the class ( For example) One student after another dropped out of the class. 学生一个接一个地离开该班。

2 介词的运用： for在这里表原因。

3 此中文句子说的是：他们因斗殴被勒令退出课堂，并没有说谁下令要他们退出课堂，不是强调某人“勒令，下令”这个动作，而是强调他们被勒令退出课堂这件事，因此最佳的翻译方式是使要用被动语态进行翻译。我们讲过了这类句子的被动语态其实就是主语从句，结构为：It is （was）+ 动词的过去分词+ that S ( should ) do. 在宾语从句中引导词that 可以省略，而在主语从句中的that是千万不能省略的，因为它起到的是连接的作用。

【Exercise】III公司被勒令向以前的员工做出补偿。

【Translation 1】It was ordered that the company should pay compensation to it's former employees.
【Translation 2】 It was ordered that the company pay compensation to it's former employees.

【喇叭】翻译2中的宾语从句省略了情态动词should，因此后面使用的是动词原形pay。注意不要看到主句中使用的是一般过去时was，就认为从句也要使用一般过去时paid.

【Exercise】IIII 委员会进行了干预，下令停建那栋大楼。

【Translation 1】The commission intervened and commanded that work on the building should cease.
【Translation 2】The commission intervened and commanded work on the building cease.

【喇叭】翻译2中省略了情态动词should，因此宾语从句中的谓语动词使用的是其原形。注意不要看到主句是一般过去时，commanded， 就认为从句中的谓语动词使用其一般过去时ceased.

【点评】短语的使用：关于......的工作 work on 在本句中是个名词性短语，on是介词，是关于的意思 . Work on也是一个固定的动词短语，意为：从事于，致力于。For example: You can change your present job you are tired of and go to work on newspaper work , however, you must think twice. 你可以改变你目前厌烦了的工作，转而从事新闻工作，但是你必须三思而后行。

【Exercise】IV 司令命令把那座桥炸毁。

【Translation 1】The commander commanded that the bridge should be blown up.
【Translation 2】The commander commanded that the bridge be blown up.

【喇叭】翻译2中的宾语从句省略了情态动词should,因此be保持原形，不要看到主句是一般过去时，就用作was.

【点评】

1 短语的使用：炸毁 blow up. 这个短语还有其它意思，Let's look at the following sentences and know about them: He tried to blow up a fire. The fire died out, instead. 他试图把火吹旺,谁知火却熄了。这里是“(人)吹气”的意思。He will blow up, and call names, and make reflections whenever they meet. 他碰头就发脾气，信口谩骂，算旧帐。 这里是“大发雷霆”的意思。You have to blow up an air mattress first before ou can use it. 在使用气垫之前，你必须先把它充满气。这里是“（用东西）充气”的意思。 his photograph of mine need to be blown up. 我的这张照片需要放大。这里是“放大”的意思。

2 翻译方式：这句话中的宾语从句是说“把桥炸毁”，并没有说谁去炸毁这座桥，不是强调某人“炸毁”这个动作，而只是说这件事情，因此采用被动语态进行翻译。

【今日主题】

And this morning I'd like to share a sentence pattern with you. It is : S intend that S should do. 这个句式是表示某人打算要某人做某事。That S should do。是由that引导的宾语从句，可以看出这里使用了虚拟语气，体现出虚拟语气就在于句子的谓语形式，那么这个谓语形式是：should + 动词原形。引导词that和谓语中的情态动词should可以省略。凡含有宾语从句的复合句中的主句中含有intend这个词做谓语，且表示打算这个意思的话，其后面的宾语从句要使用虚拟语气。

【典型例句】

Let's look at some example sentences.

I intended I read the transcript carefully and consider other action later.
我要仔细阅读记录然后考虑采取行动。

I intended I look after myself for the future .
今后我想多替自己打算打算。

上面2句在宾语从句中都省略了引导词that, 关键要说的是省略了情态动词should，注意第一句后面的动词read ，consider 和第二句中的look使用的是其原形。

下面我们把上面的2句话用被动语态来说。My dear friends, have you remembered how to change them? The answers are as follows:

（1）It was intended that I read the transcript carefully and consider other action later.

(2) It was intended I that look after myself for the future .

注意这里不能省略that, that在这里是作为连词，连接主句和从句。
