Last time we learned a sentence pattern which is : It is important that S should do. 意思是：做某事很重要。主语从句that S should do中使用了虚拟语气，因为主句中含有important 这个形容词。In addition, "should" can be left out. 我们还引申出了一个句型，是：It is important to somebody that S should do. We should pay attention to the preposition "to", instead of not using "for".

And some translation exercises were left last time that need you to translate it in different ways , which is a little difficult and I am about to let the answers to them out in the open.

【EXERCISE I】对于我们来说，遵照厂家的说明很重要。
【TRANSLATION 1】It is very important that we (should) follow the manufacturer's instructions.
【TRANSLATION 2】It is very important to us that the manufacturer's instructions （should）be followed.
【TRANSLATION 3】It is very important for us to follow the manufacturer's instructions
【TRANSLATION 4】The importance is that we (should) follow the manufacturer's instructions.
【TRANSLATION 5】We must pay attention to the importance (that) the manufacturer's instructions（should）be followed.

【喇叭】注意翻译3中的主语从句中使用be；翻译1和2的状语中使用介词to; 翻译3中的状语使用介词for.

【点评】第一句和第二句使用主语从句翻译，不同的是第一句中的主语从句使用的是主动语态，第二句中的主语从句使用的是被动语态。第三句使用动词不定式进行翻译，第四句使用表语从句进行翻译，注意含有表语从句的复合句中的主句的主语是importance的话，表语从句要使用虚拟语气，即谓语形式为：should + 动词原形， that不能省略，但是should可以省略。翻译5是使用同位语从句进行翻译，如果同位词是importance的话，那么从句中也要使用虚拟语气，即谓语形式为：should do. 在同位语从句中that 和should都可以省略。

【EXERCISE II】她吃这种药对她的身体很重要。
【TRANSLATION 1】It is vital to her health that she (should) take this medicine.
【TRANSLATION 2】It is vital to her that this medicine ( should ) be taken for her health .
【TRANSLATION 3】It is vital for her to take this medicine.
【TRANSLATION 4】For her health the importance is that she should take this medicine.

【点评】翻译1中我们可以看到状语是：to something. 那么我们可知，在这类句型中的状语可以是to somebody, 也可以是to something,但是to somebody强调的是人，而to something则强调的是物。如翻译1中强调的是“身体健康”这个状况，而不是“工作顺利”这个状况，而翻译2中强调的是“她”这个人，而不是强调“别人”。翻译方式同第一道习题。

And this morning I would like to share a sentence pattern with you which is: It is essential that S should do. 这个句式表达的意思是：完全有必要做某事/一定要做某事/做某事是必不可少的/做某事极其重要/必须做某事, and so on.

【主题详解】

Let's make a sentence with this sentence pattern. It is essential to this job that you should have some experience. 你做这项工作必须有经验。In this sentence, "essential " means completely necessary or extremely important in a particular situation or for a particular activity. 意为：完全必要的，必不可少的，极其重要的。在此句中it 是形式主语，真实主语为由that引导的主语从句that you should have some experience. 此主语从句中使用了虚拟语气，即其谓语形式是：should + 动词原形。其中should可以省略。To this job是做状语,这里强调的是“这项工作”这个事物，而不是“这个晚会”这个事物，好了，现在我们要强调是“你”，而不是“我”，那怎么改写这个句子呢？It is: It is essential to you that some experience for this job should be had. 好了，大家清楚了在这个句型中it is + adj, + to something ( to somebody ) + that S (should) do. 中的to something 和to somebody的区别了吗？从上面的例句可以知道，含有主语从句的复合句中的主句中的表语也就是形容词是essential, necessary等这样表示“必要”的词语时，主语从句中要使用虚拟语气。

【例句及剖析】

Let's look at more example sentences. 1 It is essential that this mission not fail. 这项任务一定不能失败。注意此句中not fail的由来。这里是主语从句使用了否定式，原句为that this mission should not fail. 那么should是可以省略的，因此就是句中的not fail。 2 It is not essential to happiness that money be owned. 金钱对于幸福并非必不可少。这里想必大家都知道主语从句中be的由来了吧，那就不多说了。
