Free will is simply what we called the process that happens when this vastly complex system faces its choice.

自由意志就是 所谓巨大复杂的系统面临选择时的过程

Let me try to explain.

我尽量解释看看

Imagine a man wakes up at night and feels thirsty.

想象一个人在晚上醒过来时感到口渴

Let's say I'm right about the human mind...

姑且说我对人类心智的假设是对的

And this man's brain is working according to the laws of nature.

而这个人的大脑根据自然法则运作

Where exactly might free will come into it?

自由意志究竟何时出现呢？

Let's give him a choice to make.

我们给他一个选择吧

Either orange juice or apple juice to quench his thirst.

不论柳橙汁或苹果汁都能解他的渴

As he smells the apple juice,the storm of neurons far..

.当他闻到苹果汁时 神经元一触即发

and the memory kicks in.

一段记忆出现了

He is reminded of a special moment in an apple orchard

他想起在苹果园里的一段特殊片刻

And his mind is made up.

于是他做出决定

So his choice is not surprising.

所以他的决定并不令人惊讶

He had to make a decision.

他必须做出决定

He chose...And that is what we called free will.

他也选择了 那就是我们所说的自由意志

But it's all still a matter of physics.

但那仍然全是物理现象

Looking back,I certainly made the choice to be physicist

回首过往 我确实选择成为一名物理学家

And I certainly feel like I made free will

我也确实觉得我有自由意志

because free will is what we called the complex physics that happens when we decide.

因为自由意志就是所谓的 人在做决定时产生的复杂物理现象

1、process

过程；进程

There was total agreement to start the peace process as soon as possible.

全体一致同意尽快开始和平进程。

2、make up

组成;构成

North Africans make up the largest and poorest immigrant group in the country.

北非人构成了该国最大的、也是最贫困的移民群。

Women officers make up 13 per cent of the police force.

女警占警力的13%。

编造;虚构

I think it's very unkind of you to make up stories about him.

我认为你编造他的谣言很不厚道。

I'm not making it up. The character exists in real life.

我没有凭空捏造，这种人现实生活中确实存在。

凑足;补齐

Less than half of the money that students receive is in the form of grants, and loans have made up the difference.

The team had six professionals and made the number up with five amateurs.
