Kim Jiong-Il may have had stroke
US intelligence agency officials say there's reason to believe that Kim Jiong Il, now 66, is sick.
US intelligence officials says North Korean leader Kim Jongil may have suffered a stroke and may in fact be gravely ill. This is sparking all of the speculation because he failed to show up at a celebration marking his country's 60th anniversary. NBC's Ian Williams joins us on the phone with the latest details.
Ian, Kim Jongil hasn't been seen in public / scenes for nearly a month.
That's right, Tameron. It's quite a party today , a million of people on this streets of Pyongyang huge military parade, one of those massive poorly-graphed events of the North Korean's do so well. But not there was Kim Jongil, the dear leader. And that's what's stoke the speculation which has come from USA and South Korean intelligence sources that he may have suffered a stroke and he hadn't been seen in public for a month.
But I would suggest a little bit of portion. It's not unusual for he to be out of the public limelight,he, this is a reclusive man. He is not often, seen in public. Also talking here about a very close secretive society. There's not a very good deliver of information that comes out of North Korea. So speculation is always rife.
Now the UN and South Korean intelligence have cued on him several times over recent years. But we have to remember, he didn't even turn up on his 60th birthday party, which was another one of these huge events a few years ago . Now, the Japanese have even carried reports claiming he had died in 2003. And a lot of those recent appearances have been (done) by body doubles. Now what we can say, is the 66-year-old dear leader doesn't appear to be in his best of health. The South Korean diplomats who have supported this US accounts, have cited Chinese officials and China is close to North Korea, and perhaps is better informed than most teran.
Alright, Iran, thanks you very much for the latest. We will continue to follow this breaking news story on the House of Kim Jongil. And try to get you more details. Thank you Ian.
