Enterprise is the basic cell in modernsocio-economy. Modern enterprises compete not only in management or market butin culture. Management is also a kind of culture. Culture is resource, cultureis brand. Culture is the sign of not only social progress but corporate competitiveness. Corporate culture is an important partof social culture, the soul of an enterprise and the spiritual support for itsdevelopment. When handling therelationship between enterprise and market, modern enterprises ought to stressfair competition, mutual trust and mutual benefits. With competition enterprisecan grow and develop. As modern marketeconomy is a legal economy, enterprises must follow market rules and pay moreattention to credit. Manufacturing and selling of counterfeit goods not onlyharm society but lead to self-termination of enterprises.
Modern enterprises should be armed with thesense of responsibility. When handling the relationship between enterprise andsociety, modern enterprises should pay attention to social benefits and abideby civilized operation while pursuing economic benefits. Corporate sustainability should be based onsocial acceptability as a prerequisite, so products should meet the need ofsociety, operation should conform to social ethnics, meanwhile, enterprises shouldbe actively engaged in public welfare. Vividly speaking, the relationshipbetween enterprise and society resembles that of fish and water.

When handling the business-to-business relationship, modernenterprises should emphasize mutual learning and make concerted progress.Learning is more than a kind of attitude—it's a kind of culture; it's more thana kind of method—it's a kind of philosophy. A person that is good at learning can makesteady progress, a nation of this kind can embrace a bright future and anenterprise of this kind can grow bigger, stronger and longer. Modern Chinese enterprises should not onlyinherit those good traditions in our management culture but learn thoseadvanced management experience and corporate culture from abroad. Throughabsorbing all the good points of human civilization, our corporate spirit canbe nourished.
Modern enterprises should be armed withheroism. A country or a nation should have its own heroes at specific times.Those outstanding entrepreneurs are heroes of this age. Those outstanding entrepreneurs who act asexamples of our society and are respected by our society not only manufactureproducts but also create culture. Oursociety needs a great number of fortune-making heroes, needs a large quantityof world-famous enterprises and needs thousands of excellent entrepreneurs.
China's accession to WTO indicates that ourenterprises have entered world economy and begun competing in it, which is tobe regarded as another further and more extensive reform. By competing with world-famous enterpriseswith a history of several hundred years, our enterprises are bound to undergomore profound reforms in concept and philosophy. This is a historic transformation withoutturning back. Result of this transformation will directly determine the pace ofChinese enterprises to the world.
Compared with those counterparts ofdeveloped countries, our enterprises are relatively backward in science andtechnology and management, and poorly competitive in the market; owing to lackof features and advantages in its infancy, our modern corporate culture is far fromenough to adapt to the fierce competition of international market.
