Lyndon Baines Johnson was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969. He was born in 1908 on a small farmhouse in central Texas and felt the pinch of rural poverty as he grew up. He workedhis way through Southwest Texas State Teachers College and graduated as a teacher in 1930. In 1937 he campaigned successfully for the House of Representatives.
