在今天的课堂上，我们要来学习的词语是：acquaintance，它是及物动词acquaint的名词形式。在Acquaint后面加上后缀a-n-c-e就变成名词了。如果您要表示一个认识的人，但是与这个人又是泛泛之交，不是亲密的朋友，您就可以使用这个词语。我们通过下面的情景剧来看看这个词语的运用：

Mary : Hi, John. You know Mike? He had not any friend in China before he came to China just a few days ago.

您好，John! 你知道Mike? 他来中国之前没有任何中国朋友的哦。

John : Yeah, he is just my business acquaintance but I would like to develop a further business relationship with him in the near future.

是的，他只不过是我也在业务上认识的人，但是我想在不久的将来和他发展更长远的业务关系。

在上面的情景剧中，为何可以使用acquaintance呢？一来，Mary说到Mike是a few days ago来到中国的，且之前没有任何Chinese Friends。Of course，Mike与John的交情就不是close。二来，John自己说到的他和Mike只是business上来往，没有其他方面的来往，such as：to talk about his marriage or love with sb., to talk about his family等之类的private things。因此，acquaintance refers to a person that you know but who is a not a close friend。

说到此了，要给您敲个警钟的是我们在使用acquaintance这个词语的时候，要清楚acquaintance所指的对象范围，并非所有认识的人或熟人都是可以用acquaintance来表示。
