他弄清楚了事实的真相；我们这里所有人的生命都是他给予的
connected all the dots:字面意思是"把所有点都连接起来了"，
在电影中，这个说法是个比喻，
指"找出了事情的真相"或"找到了通向真相的途径"。
这里补充一下，dot的意思是"点"，
我们在电脑上作图时，经常要设置dpi，
那是dots per inch"每英寸包含点数"的缩写。
owe:是指"欠"，可以指"欠"钱，
例如，He owes me five dollars. "他欠我５美金"，
也可以指"欠"情，
例如，I owe them an apology."我该向他们道个歉"。
当然，电影中"欠"的是命了，
具体的说是owe sb. his or her life.
这是非常特殊的情景才可能出现的。
另外，owe还有一个较生动的用法，
比如说，有些人运气很好，年纪轻轻就获得了巨大的成功，
我们就可以说They owe their successes to luck. "他们的成功是靠运气"。

我刚得到消息，他已经和他的家人一起死在东印度的海啸中了。

And he died in vain.
他死得太冤枉了。
in vain：是个固定表达，指"没有结果，徒劳"，
例如，Our labor was in vain. "我们的劳动毫无用处"。
其中vain作形容词时是指"没有结果的"，
如，a vain attempt，"一次没有结果的尝试"。

其他死难者同样死得太冤枉了。
If we start our future with an act of cruelty,

如果我们以残忍来开始新的生活，你将来怎么跟你的孩子交待。

cruelty：是形容词cruelty的名词形式，指"残忍"，
例如，Britain had laws against cruelty to animals．
"英国有保护动物免遭虐待的法律"。
