一.admire：vt.钦佩, 赞美, 羡慕
【语法用法】
admire后接名词，不能接that从句。
I admire his learning.
句子最好别换成I admire that he is learned，因不自然。
下面的两种表达方式均可：
I admire his learning.
I admire him for his learning.
【词义辨析】
admire, honour, respect, regard, esteem
这些动词均含“尊重、钦佩”之意。
admire侧重指对某人或某物的仰慕、钦佩，并含欣赏爱慕之情。
honour侧重指对某人或某物表示极大的敬意。
respect指对人的行为、品德、才华或成就等的仰慕尊重。尤指对年长或地位高的人的尊敬。
regard最正式用词，中性，含义不很明确，一般需用修饰语加强或明确其意。
esteem除表示尊敬之外，还暗示由此而产生的称赞。

二.alive：adj.活着的, 有活力的, 注意到的, 热闹的
【语法用法】
alive属于表语形容词，不能说very alive，只能说much alive或very much alive（后者比前者使用更普遍），等同于alive的定语形容词是living或live；
the greatest poet alive和the greatest living poet表达方式均可，意思也相同，也可说the greatest poet living，不过不常用，最好是说the greatest poet now living。
【词义辨析】
alive, live, living
这些形容词均有“活着的，活的”之意。
alive其反义词为dead，指生命从奄奄一息到精力旺盛的各种状态。
live通常作定语，指活生生的，生气勃勃的，还可表示现场直播的。
living其反义词为dead，指包括人和动植物的生命没有消失、仍然存在的状态。
