Affordable New York Taking a Cheap Bite Outof the Big Apple

RICHARD QUEST, BUSINESS TRAVELLER

New York pre-and post-recession is a verydifferent place. People spend money in different ways. They have differentpriorities. But that doesn't mean to say that if you are a business travelerhere, you can't have a good time. You just have to do things differently, and Time Outhas some suggestions for doing just that.

MICHAEL FREIDSON, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF, TIME OUTNEW YORK

Hi, this is Michael Freidson,editor-in-chief of Time Out New York, and I'm here to show you some good deals[in] post-recession New York. Our first stop is Artisanal, a French bistro onPark Avenue that serves the best grilled cheese. Thirteen dollars may not soundcheap for a grilled cheese sandwich, but it's the best way to enjoy a bite byMichelin star-winning chef Terrence Brennan. He's been offering this meal sincethe beginning of the year as a recession special and it's one of the mostpopular entrees.

Broadway has experienced ups and downssince the recession in January. Fifteen shows closed. But this fall there's awhole new Crop of exciting new productions. Shows that deal with nostalgia arepacking them in. You've got Hair, the musical from the'60s, you've got Rock ofAges with music from journey and Bon Jovi and you've got jersey Boys.

Now I'm going to take you to one of NewYork's newest hot spots-Governors Island. It's one of the best-kept secrets inthe city. This is a former military fort that's since been turned into a publicpark that's got art galleries, a bar and grill, live music. It sort of adds alittle beachiness to what is usually a pretty urban environment.

The city is not about exclusivity in TimeOut's eyes. It's about everyone trying to enjoy the best of what it has tooffer.
