白色向来是纯洁的代名词，但在英语中，由白色white组成的短语就一定也代表着白色的意思吗？今天我们就来揭开其中的奥秘吧!
以前有看过一个小故事说：有个外国人很喜欢收藏名画，一次他的中国朋友在他那里看到他的收藏品，他说：My several old paintings are white elephants. 可是中国人怎么也不能从画上看出白象来。实际上在英语里这个短语的意思是“贵重而无用，但也是不易处理的物品”。

另外一个例子是white lie，这个短语相对来说比较常见，也就是“白色谎言，善意的谎言”。
