As the Beijing Olympic flame will arrive in Australia's capital on Wednesday, Ron Harvey, vice president of the Australian Olympic Committee, says the Australian people warmly welcome the Beijing Olympic torch.

Harvey says hosting the Beijing Olympic torch relay in Canberra holds great significance.

"Canberra, as you know, is Australia's national capital. It's one of the most beautiful capitals in the world, in my view. Canberra is also a sister city to Beijing, and I think it was a very wise decision to have the flame come down to Canberra, where all of the Australians can appreciate the flame, because this is their national capital."

According to Harvey, the torch relay in Canberra will pass many scenic spots, including Lake Burley Griffin, which divides the city in two, Australia's new parliament house, and the Chinese Embassy, known as China's most beautiful embassy.

Harvey says Australians strongly support the Beijing Olympics and wish the games great success.
