The Beijing Olympic flame has arrived in Indonesian capital of Jakarta for the 14th leg of its global tour.

It is the first time for the country to receive the Olympic flame. Eighty torchbearers will take part in the relay, which will start Tuesday afternoon local time.

Chairwoman of the Indonesian National Olympic Committee, Rita Subowo, says at least 2,500 policemen and security officers will be deployed to safeguard the event along the 7-kilometer route.

She says precautionary measures are being taken to ensure a trouble-free torch relay, as Indonesia is committed to fully supporting the Beijing Olympic Games.

"It is a great honor for Indonesia to be one of the 19 countries to hold the Beijing Olympic torch relay. This is a historic moment for Indonesia. I hope all of our people support the Beijing Olympic Games. For one thing, Beijing has done a large amount of preparatory work, and for another, we are going to protect our athletes to be able to compete in the games."

She adds that she hopes Olympic Games can be separated from politics, religion and race, and sports can be the carrier of friendship, utility and peace.

Minister of Culture and Tourism, Jero Wacik, will show his support as a torchbearer.

"Sports are part of tourism, and it can promote tourism. We can show our country to the world. Media worldwide gathers at where the torch is, so along the route of relay in our country, they will find Indonesia is a really good tourist attraction."

The current Olympic champion in the men's badminton singles Taufik Hidayat, will serve as the last torchbearer.

"I feel very proud. Many athletes have won the champion, and I am chosen to be the torch bearer. It is a glory for me. Four years ago I won a gold medal for Indonesia and now I'm preparing for the Olympic torch relay."

In related news, the Olympic chief of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea has said that the upcoming torch relay in capital city of Pyongyang will enhance friendship between the DPRK and China and show their traditional friendship to the world.

The torch relay will be held on April 28 in Pyongyang, the 18th leg of its global trip, and also the first time for the country to receive the Olympic flame.
