China's first domestically produced bullet train with a maximum speed of 350 kilometers per hour has rolled off the production line.

The train, produced in the northern city of Tangshan, is the latest model in the nation's Railway High-speed series.

Equipped with highly-efficient power system, the currently fastest train in China is also energy efficient.

Sun Bangcheng is the chief engineer.

"When the train is running, it can transfer kinetic energy into electricity, so that it can ensure its electricity supply even when it is cut off from the power grids."

The eight-carriage train, with a streamlined body made of light aluminum alloy, can carry nearly 560 passengers.

Three such trains will begin service on the new 120-km Beijing-Tianjin route before the Olympics starts in August. They will cut the travel time from 80 minutes at present to 30 minutes.

In all, 57 such trains are expected to be in commercial operation by the end of 2009.

China unveiled the first domestic 300 kilometers-per-hour train last December, becoming the fourth country to produce such trains, after France, Germany and Japan.
