The Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee has recruited more than 35,000 volunteers to serve in the competition venues during the Olympics.

The volunteers were selected from among tens of thousands applicants from home and abroad. One-third of those selected have taken part in test competitions over the past few months.

Field volunteer will offer guide and translation services for spectators.

"Most of the questions I got from the spectators were related to locations of their seats, bathrooms and the Olympic franchise shops."

Applications for field volunteers have closed, but Liu Jian, director of the BOCOG volunteers' department, says people who are still interested in working at the Games can apply for other service categories.

"Volunteers can apply to work outside of the sports venues. Given huge number of visitors during the games, these volunteers will be huge demand for services such as travel information."
