Anchor: A top official from the Tibet Autonomous Region says the local government is fully prepared for the Olympic torch relay in June, and that his government will spare no efforts in ensuring a smooth, successful torch relay on "the roof of the world." Our reporter Liu Yan has more.
Reporter: The Tibetan people are slowly resuming their normal lives after the March 14 riot in Lhasa.
Qiangba Puncog, chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region, told reporters in Beijing on Wednesday that social order in Tibet is stable and Tibetan people are living normal, prosperous lives again.
"So far, life in Lhasa has returned to normal. Students are attending classes again. Most of the damaged shops have resumed business. The Potala Palace, museums and other places of interest have also reopened to tourists. The market supply is sufficient and prices are stable."
Qiangba Puncog said the Tibetan people are looking forward to the arrival of the sacred Olympic flame in June, as part of the 2008 Global Torch Relay. He added that the Tibetan people and the local government will carefully orchestrate the event to make the relay safe and smooth.
"Ensuring a smooth torch relay in Tibet is a great honor and responsibility for the Tibetan people. We are very supportive of the event. We have made delicate preparations and arrangements so that the torch relay in Tibet will be safe, smooth and successful for sure."
Protests have disrupted the torch relay in some European cities as the flame continues its journey around the world. Sita, a senior government official who's also an ethnic Tibetan, has urged protestors to stop their activities designed to trigger a boycott of the Olympics. He stresses that the central government is determined to host a grand and successful Olympic Games, which is the common wish and expectation of all Chinese and people around the world.
The Olympic flame will reach Mt. Qomolangma in May and will be relayed through Tibet in June.
