重点讲解

die from: 死于...
die from, die of, die with, die by的用法区分

1) die from 表示死于(枪)伤,虚弱,过度劳累,饮食过度等。如:
The engineer died from overwork.这个工程师死于操劳过度。
The child died from weakness.这个孩子因体质太虚弱而死了。

2) die of 表示死于疾病,饥饿,寒冷,年老等;死于忧愁,失恋等精神因素。如:
The man died of lung-cancer(肺癌)。这个人死于肺癌。
The beggar died of hunger and cold.这个乞丐死于饥饿和寒冷。

3) die with 表示死于某种精神因素。(也可用 die of)如:
The old woman died with anger (horror).这个老妇人震怒致死。(惊恐致死)
She died with grief (deep sorrow).她悲伤致死。

4) die by 表示死于暴力等。如:
The young girl died by her own hand. 这个年轻的女孩自杀而死。

be fond of sb/(doing) sth: having a great liking for sb/(doing) sth 喜爱某人[(做)某事物]:
I've always been very fond of you. 我一向非常喜欢你.
fond of music, cooking, going to parties 喜爱音乐、 烹调、 参加聚会
John's extremely fond of pointing out other people's mistakes, ie He enjoys doing this constantly.
约翰特别喜欢挑剔别人的毛病.

What if…?的三种用法

1) 表示假设
what if 用于提出假设时,意思是假若……假若……怎么办要是……将会怎么样,其后句子可用陈述语气(用一般现在时),也可用虚拟语气(用一般过去时或should+动词原形)。如:

What if she finds out that you’ve lost her book? 如果她发现你把她的书丢了怎么办?
But what if somebody decides to break the rules? 但是如果有人决定打破这些规则呢?

从句用虚拟语气时,若是针对过去情况,从句则用过去完成时。如:
What if no one had been there? 假如没有人去过那里的话,会怎么样?

2) 表示邀请或建议
What if…表示邀请或建议时,意思是如果……怎么样?如果……如何?。如:

What if you join us for lunch? 同我们一起吃午饭怎么样?

3) 表示不重要
此时通常常与so连用,意为就算……那又怎样?如:

So what if we're a little late? 就算我们迟到一会儿那又怎样?
So what if the colours clashed? 就算颜色不协调那又怎样?

注:若句意清楚,so what if…有时可省略成so what? 如:
A:I'm afraid it's too expensive. 恐怕太贵了。
B:So what? We've plenty of money. 那有什么关系? 我们有的是钱。
