In the disaster region, some foreign tourists and journalists witnessed the quake and relief work.

Two female tourists from England were trapped in the quake area but were rescued by the Chinese army three days later.

Judy Wong and Penelope Edwards were traveling in the Wolong Natural Reserve of Giant Panda, which was very close to the epicenter.

"We were trapped, completely trapped in the mountains. But we were trapped in the place where there was a local army. They were a great help. They were also the local police. We were given by the army and the police…they gave us what they have. They gave us their rice basically."

The tourists recalled that the army not only provided them with food, but also helped them to set up tents, so that they can stay away from hunger and cold.

"When I go back, I'm going to show them what has happened, also maybe do some more fund raising for China."

Lindsey Hilsum with BBC Channel Four came to Sichuan to report the rescue and relief work. She said she is deeply touched by the love and care both from the government and non-government sides.

"I can see that the army has moved very quickly to send rescued people and I'm very impressed to see so many volunteers, ordinary people who are donating food and water and trying to help the victims."
