Adjectives

Look at these sentences
看看下面的句子
Anna watched here ball bounce across the road
安娜看到她的球跳过了马路
There were hats on the shelf
书架上有帽子
They are fine but not very interesting
这些句子还不错,但是不够有趣
To make them more interesting
为了使它们更有意思
We add describing words, adjectives
我们加入描述性词汇,形容词
Remember that adjectives describe a noun or a pronoun
记住形容词用来形容一个名词或者代词
Anna watched her large green ball bounce across the wide gravel road
安娜看到她又大又绿的球跳过了宽阔的碎石路
There were hats on the shelf
书架上有帽子
They were black, pointy hats
帽子是黑色的,尖尖的
The kind a witch would wear
就像巫婆戴的那种
The adjectives give us more information about the nouns and pronouns
形容词给予我们更多有关名词或代词的信息
And so make the sentences more interesting
由此使句子变得更生动有趣
We can form adjectives from other word
我们还可以让其它类型的词变成形容词形式
By adding a suffix to the end
只需添加词尾后缀
For example, the nouns “power” and “value”
打个比方,名词 power 和 value
Become “powerful” and “valuable”
变成 powerful 和 valuable
Many adjectives of feeling have two forms
很多形容感觉的形容词有两种形态
Ending with “ed” and “ing”
由 ed 和 ing 结尾
For example
比如说
Excited and exciting
Excited和 exciting
Surprised and surprising
Surprised 和 surprising
Tired and tiring
Tired 和 tiring
Discouraged and discouraging
Discouraged 和 discouraging
Terrified and terrifying
Terrified 和 terrifying
Confused and confusing
Confused 和 confusing
The “ed” ending describes the way you feel
ed结尾描述你的感觉
Anna felt excited that the circus was coming to town
安娜对于马戏团要到镇上感到兴奋
The “ing” ending describes the thing that makes you feel like this ing
结尾描述事物令你如何感觉
The circus was exciting
马戏团令人兴奋
There is a lot more of adjectives to come
还有一大堆形容词有待探索
But you’ll have to wait

Adjectives are interesting
