Today we will start by thinking about making predictions

A prediction is a guess about what will happen in the future
"预测"就是对未来将要发生的事情进行猜想
We use the words
人们进行预测时
"will" "won't"
通常都会使用"will" "won't"
"may", "might" and "could"
"may" "might" "could"等词
For example, "all housework will be done with computers"
例如 "所有家务活都将通过电脑来完成"
Adverbs like "probably", "definitely"
"probably""definitely"
and "certainly" go after "will"
"certainly"等副词一般都会用在"will"之后
but before "won't"
"won't"之前
"We will probably live in big apartment buildings"
例如 "我们可能将会住在大公寓楼里"
"We certainly won't live underground"
"我们一定不会住地下室"
In predictions, "may" and "might"
在预测时 "may" 和"might"
can be used in the negative form
可用于否定形式
but "could" cannot be used in the negative form
而"could"不能用于否定形式
May not and might not
来看看"may not"和 "might not"的例子
"We may not have cars in twenty years time"
"二十年内我们可能不会有汽车"
We can also say "may well"
如果我们想说某件事很可能会发生时
"might well" and "could well"
我们还可以用"may well" "might well"
if we want to say that something will probably happen
和"could well"等词来表达
"There may well be no crime
例如 "50年内那里很可能
in 50 years time"

we should also consider hypothetical possibilities with the word "if"
我们还应想到用"if"来表示的假设可能性
A hypothetical possibility is an imaginary situation
假设可能性是一种
that could happen in the future
在将来可能会发生的假想的情境
For this we use "would" or
这时候，我们会用"would"或
"wouldn't" plus the verb
"wouldn't"+动词的形式
"If I went to Rome, I'd visit the Coloseum"
例如 "如果我去罗马，就会去参观角斗场"
Notice that even though we use past forms like "went"
注意，虽然我们使用的"went"一词是过去式
we're not referring to past time
但该动作并不表示过去发生的
Instead, they refer to a general imaginary time
相反，它们指的是一种假想的情况
Usually, we would use "were"
通常，我们都会用"if"从句
instead of "was" and the "if" clause
并用"were"代替 "was"
"If I were in France
例如 "如果我在法国
I would see the Eiffel Tower"
我就会去看看埃菲尔铁塔"
"If Anna were in Japan, she would see Mount Fujiyama"

"Might" can be used instead of "would"
