One of my most interesting experiences was swimming in the Great Salt Lake. The lake covers an area larger than the state of Rhode Island. The surprising fact is that, although the lake is far from any ocean, and although it gets water from rivers which have so little salt that they actually taste sweet, the lake is about six times as salty as the ocean.
For a while I floated around, but soon I wanted to stand. Then, I was surprised. I couldn't stand on the ground! The salty water was very heavy and it was holding me up.
