Astrology is an ancient practice, and appears to have its origins in Chaldea, thousands of years B.C. By 700 B.C., the Zodiac was established. A few centuries later, the Signs of the Zodiac were very similar to the current ones.

One popular classification of the Signs of the Zodiac is elements(象)， which are also known as triplicities（“三位一体”) and speak to the basic nature and temperament of a sign. There are four elements and their corresponding signs are Fire（Aries, Leo and Sagittarius）, Earth（Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn), Air （Gemini , Libra and Aquarius） and Water (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces).
