The Sticking Plaster Cancer Cure
There are no scare poles ,no pain killing injections needed for this skin cancer treatment,a harmless cream and a special plaster are all it takes.
Inside the device,a tiny LED light activates a drug in the cream to create a toxic chemical that kills the diseased cells. The Ambulight device works like this,a cream containing an inactive chemical is rubbed into the skin where it's absorbed by cancer cells but not normal tissue. Three hours later, the light in the plaster automatically switches on for a set time, converting the chemical into a lethal drug,it kills the cancer but leaves the healthy cells alone .
"We are looking 80% to 90% complete cure with it,and what we are hoping is to optimize that further by looking at various new ways of delivering the light pulsing, for example,so there is a lot of room for improvement."
The treatment is called photo dynamic therapy,it is increasingly being used in hospitals, but up to now it's needed bulky lamps like this by miniaturizing the technology into a sticking plaster. It becomes incredibly simple to use, patients could go to their GP surgery to have the plaster put on and then go home for the treatment.

Talks between S. Korea, Japan on wartime labor camps
South Korean and Japanese officials are scheduled to hold talks in Tokyo today, after Japan asked UNESCO to provide world heritage status to sites built during the country's industrial revolution, some of which were used as labor camps during World War II.
Senior officials of cultural affairs from both sides will attend the meeting, which comes after South Korea's efforts to block Japan's bid to list a total of 23 facilities, including seven sites where nearly 60,000 Koreans were forced to work during World War II. South Korea says the listing is part of Japan's efforts to glorify and whitewash its wartime history.
South Korean President Park Geun Hye previously spoke to UNESCO director-general Irina Bokoca to criticize the bid, saying it created "unnecessary discord".
The final decision on the listing is expected to come during a series of UNESCO meetings, beginning June 28 in Bonn, Germany.

The UN refugee agency has evacuated hundreds of Burundian refugees from a makeshift camp at a fishing village in Tanzania. This comes after an outbreak of cholera in the small town of Kagunga, which has killed over 30 people so far.
On Saturday, around 600 people were moved from the banks of Kagunga beach to a larger camp further inland which has better facilities. A UN official says up to 2-thousand refugees are being moved from the town every day. So far, up to 200,000 people have fled political unrest in Burundi. Many of them have sought refuge in unsanitary refugee camps in Tanzania.
