Colombia's strikes by agricultural workers are becoming increasingly violent. In some areas police fired tear gas at protesters who blocked roads and bombarded them with rocks and molotov cocktails. There were similar scenes around the country during this second wave of strikes over government policies the workers say stop them selling their produce. These citrus producers spread fruit over a road to show how bitter they're feeling.

All the markets are flooded with fruit." The fruit growers aren't alone. Potato, corn and milk producers also complain that free trade agreements with Europe and the U.S make it difficult to compete with cheap imports.

Trial date set for Gaddafi son

Libya's prosecutor-general says the trial of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, son of Libya's ousted dictator, will start next month. He's accused of crimes during his father's 42-year rule and during the country's civil war in 2011. But his fate is the subject of a complex feud. The fighters who captured him and are still holding him in Zintan want him tried on their home turf. Libya's government wants to try him in Tripoli. The International Criminal Court wants to try him for war crimes in the Hague. Libya's ICC representative said he'd argue Tripoli's case.

At least six people are known to have died when this building collapsed in the Brazilian city of Sao Paolo. At least 24 more have been injured. Emergency workers fear the number of dead could rise. Maria de Fatima's son, a construction worker on the site, is among the missing.

The building was in the final stages of construction when it came crashing down on Tuesday. Local news reports say city officials have confirmed the project was considered to be in 'an irregular state' at the time.

China’s Vice Foreign Minister, Li Bao-dong, says China sees no basis for holding talks with Japan on territorial disputes due to Japan’s provocative words and actions.
Li made the comment in response to being asked about the likelihood of a meeting between Chinese and Japanese leaders on the sidelines of the G20 summit this September in St.Petersburg. He’s underlined that Japan has ignored historical facts and taken a defiant stance on the issue of disputed territory, through a series of provocative actions. He says China-Japan relations are in serious difficulties because of the Diaoyu Islands issue and that the Chinese side is not to blame. He’s added that China has called for dialogue to resolve the dispute and improve bilateral relations, but that the Japanese side has refused to address solutions to the problem.
"A meeting between leaders is not simply for the sake of shaking hands and taking pictures, but to resolve problems. If Japan wants to arrange a meeting to resolve problems, they should stop with the empty talk and doing stuff for show. Japan needs to broaden its mindset, face historical facts and take concrete actions to remove obstacles." said Li Bbaodong, Chinese vice foreign minister.

Continued ramblings over possible military action in Syria affected financial markets on Tuesday with stocks having a particularly poor run.
The increasing possibility of U.S. military strikes raised worries on Wall Street that energy trade in the region could be disrupted, raising fuel costs for consumers and businesses.
The Dow Jones industrial average fell about 170 points, to about 14,776, the lowest in two months.
All 10 industry sectors in the S&P 500 index were in the red, and only 31 of the index’s 500 stocks rose.
Gold prices rose two percent, and government bond prices jumped, as traders see those investments holding their value better in times of uncertainty.
Oil price surged to close at 109 U.S. dollars a barrel, the highest closing price since last February 2012.
