More than 400 Chinese oil workers have been evacuated from South Sudan due to growing violence. This comes after South Sudanese rebels on Wednesday claimed their forces had taken control of great parts of the Foluj oilfield.
The refinery is located about 10 kilometers from the main Paloch oil fields in Upper Nile State, where workers at China National Petroleum Corporation were operating.
The Chinese embassies in South Sudan and Sudan, as well as the Chinese oil company began to evacuate staff on Wednesday. The workers will be flown home in the coming days.

British retail sales rose more strongly than expected in April, recovering from a surprise fall in March, as unusually warm weather encouraged shoppers to buy new clothes.
The Office for National Statistics says retail sales volume rose 1.2 percent on the month, the strongest increase since November.
But the increase in sales was mostly due to a one-off surge in purchases of clothing, textiles and footwear, which saw the biggest monthly rise in four years.
Analysts say the strength of the figures may further ease concerns about weakness in the British economy.
