Yingluck ordered to quit as Thailand's prime minister
法庭下令泰国总理英拉辞职
Yingluck Shinawatra wasn't in court to hear the judge Bangkok order her to step down as prime minister. She's been found guilty of violating the constitution. The court said she'd abused her position by shifting the national security chief to another post in 2011 so a relative could benefit from subsequent moves. Yingluck, seen here in file footage, had denied any wrongdoing. The decision is likely to anger her supporters but the government's survival could take the sting out of protests planned for the weekend. They have accused the Constitutional Court of bias because of frequent rulings against the government. In 2008 it forced the departure from office of two prime ministers linked to Yingluck's brother Thaksin.

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba files IPO document in US
阿里巴巴赴美上市 引美国关注
China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba has filed an initial public offering document to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
According to SEC information and well-informed sources, the IPO plans to raise one billion US dollars.
The Alibaba IPO is finally a go. After much anticipation- China’s largest e-commerce company filed for a $1 billion dollar initial public offering- analysts expect an eventual valuation of as much as $160 billion. It’s leaving its options open when it comes to where it’s going to list- the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq, but IPO Financial’s David Menlow says there’s no contest.
"If I were a betting man I would put my money on the New York. This is going to be a massive offering. It’s going to make Facebook look like an also ran as far as what they went through. There will be many people doing many kinds of trades from all over the world. And let’s face it New York seems to have the recognition that they are the exchange of last resort and where a company like this will be going." said David Menlow, President, IPO Financial.
Alibaba’s businesses include: Taobao- a marketplace for small businesses. It makes money by charging vendors to advertise.
Tmall.com- an online storefront for brand-name companies. And Alipay- while not part of the offering - it controls almost half of China’s online payment market
Alibaba already accounts for about 80 percent of all online shopping by individual consumers in China, which iResearch expects to reach $394 billion this year.
But there are risks, including changes in the political and economic policies of the Chinese government. And there are uncertainties regarding the interpretation of Chinese laws. And the way the company is structured could limit shareholder influence.
Current investors include Softbank and Yahoo- both with substantial stakes.. along with insiders Jack Ma and Joe Tsai. Yahoo has to sell about 40 percent of its stake or sell it to Alibaba directly before the IPO- What Yahoo will do with sudden cash infusion is still unclear. But expect the stock to get a warm welcome- Kathleen Smith of Rennassance Capital.
"This is a company that so many investment managers are going to look at. Indexes are going to put them in. I expect the S&P 500 won’t ignore this. It finally added Facebook, I’m sure Alibaba will be a candidate too." said Kathleen Smith,Principal, Renaissance Capital.
No information on the timing of this deal- but when it does land on U.S. shores Alibaba will be the largest Chinese companyto list on a U.S. exchange.

“A Bite of China” brings fame to “hollow noodles”
舌尖2:陕西美食空心挂面亮相
The second season of the gourmet documentary "A Bite of China" has created quite a buzz with the stunning culinary skills featured. It's particularly cooked up a lot of interest in some specially-made noodles from Shaanxi province. Let's head to the small village in northwest China where the locals are the master noodle-makers, and find out more about the thousand-year-old technique.
Early in the morning, when day light is soon to break the night, Zhang Shihong gets up to prepare the flour. 40 to 3.5, the proportion between flour and salt, is the perfect number after decades of trials.
In qinjiazhuang village, everybody is a master at making kongxin noodles, which translates to hollow noodles. The skill is carried on from generation to generation. After Zhang's parents passed away, his sixth uncle took on the duty of carrying on the torch.
"There are 7 steps in making the noodles and every one connects with each other. Fail at any step, it is impossible to move on to the next one."
After two rounds of fermentation, at 2 the next morning, Zhang and his wife start the most essential process.
"This is the hardest step: twist the dough and split it into two, tie them up on the sticks and press them to make sure they don't drop." said Zhang Shihong, Noodle Maker.
No instructions written down or printed, everything to do with these noodles is learnt through word of mouth. When Zhang's son comes home from school, the boy joins his parents, hanging up the noodles and letting gravity lend a hand.
When the sun rises the following morning, the yard is filled with the warm smell of wheat. And the noodles, now thin as hair, drapes under the sunlight.
"These are the traditional skills passed on within families and are facing extinction. Knowing more about them feels like paying respect to the older generations and their wisdom." said Chen Lei, Director, "A Bite of China Ii" Episode 2.
Director Chen Lei shot his episode of "A Bite of China" at the home of Zhang Shixin. Just days after the program was broadcasted on air, Zhang Shixin passed away from cancer. He had sat and watched the whole process as his family showed their skills for the cameras. His love for it, is alien to the young people from the region.
"Young people want to go to big cities and find jobs. They are not interested in learning how to make the noodles." said Zhang Shihong, Noodle Maker.
"A Bite of China" has brought sudden fame and fortune to the noodle makers. However, whether that traditional skill will stay alive, time will tell.
