More than 100 kids celebrated International Children's Day in the "community of love", a resettlement camp in Chengdu, capital of the quake-hit southwest province of Sichuan.
Class resumed in the community this past Monday. An elderly man from Yingxiu township visited his three-year-old grandson there.
"These are the gifts, bags, clothes, and food they received for the Children's Day. He's still very chipper, not really knowing what the disaster was all about."
Chinese basketball star Yao Ming also spoke to the children via telephone. Guo Xueyu was more than happy to talk with her idol.
"He cares for us a lot. I hope this will not affect his performance during the Olympics. If possible, I want a basketball with his signature."
Guo Xueyu said she wanted to be a singer when she grew up.
Be it by singing, talking to their idols or being with loved ones, children from quake-hit regions were shown that all of China stands together as one as they overcome the May 12 tragedy.
