At last, as they drew near the end of their journey,

this treacherous servant threatened to kill her mistress if she ever told anyone what had happened.

But Falada saw it all, and marked it well.

可是法拉达把一切都看在眼里，并作了标记。

Then the waiting-maid got upon Falada, and the real bride rode upon the other horse,

然后侍女骑上法拉达，真正的新娘却只能骑着侍女的马匹，

and they went on in this way till at last they came to the royal court.

她们就这样一直走，最后到达王宫。

There was great joy at their coming, and the prince flew to meet them, and lifted the maid from her horse,

她们来了，大家都很高兴。王子飞跑出来迎接她们，他把侍女从马上扶下来，

thinking she was the one who was to be his wife; and she was led upstairs to the royal chamber;

他以为她就是自己的未婚妻；于是侍女被带到楼上的王宫里，

but the true princess was told to stay in the court below.

但真正的公主却被告知留在下面的宫殿里。

Now the old king happened just then to have nothing else to do;

老国王正好在这个时候无事可做;

so he amused himself by sitting at his kitchen window, looking at what was going on;

因此他就坐在厨房的窗户前，观察着外面发生的事情，

and he saw her in the courtyard.

他看见她呆在院子里。

As she looked very pretty, and too delicate for a waiting-maid,

看上去是那么的漂亮，气质不像是一位侍女。

he went up into the royal chamber to ask the bride who it was she had brought with her,

他走进王宫，问新娘带来的人是何人，

that was thus left standing in the court below.

那个站在下面院子里的姑娘。

'I brought her with me for the sake of her company on the road,' said she;

“我带她来是为了在路上能够有人作伴，”侍女说道。

'pray give the girl some work to do, that she may not be idle.'

“请给这姑娘安排点事情做，免得她闲着。”

The old king could not for some time think of any work for her to do;

老国王一时想不出她该做些什么;

but at last he said, 'I have a lad who takes care of my geese; she may go and help him.'

最后他说:“我有一个小伙子，他替我牧鹅。她可以去帮帮他。”

Now the name of this lad, that the real bride was to help in watching the king's geese, was Curdken.

现在这个少年的名字叫柯德金，就是真正的新娘需要帮助看守国王的鹅的那个小伙子。
