第 23 讲 公司(corporation)与尸体(corpse)--表示” 身体”的词根" corpus "

学生: 股份制公司英文是corporation 吧?

老师: 是的。corporation 词源是拉丁语词corpus(身体)。上一讲咱们讲到了词根心（cor）。
这次咱们要讲的词根是corpus (身体)，这个词来源于corporare（＝form into body [成形]) 。
corporation 就是其字面意思”无心的组织”，所以需要往里面加入灵魂。

学生: 原来如此。(尸体) 的词源也是拉丁语词corpus(身体)，是不是因为灵魂出壳了，就
成了尸体呢?

老师: 非常正确，可以这么理解。根据古人的思维，与灵魂相对的是身体。没有灵魂的身体
是corpse，从而产生了尸体之意。现在IT 行业经常提到corpus，那是指用于编写辞典而收
集了大量用例的数据库。那么它和”身体” 有何关系呢? 根据Webster 英英字典的解释，它
是指a collection or body of knowledge or evidence，也就是” 知识体”.

1. corporeal 物質的、身体有关的、肉体的
