This morning, more backlash after new Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella offered this advice to a room full of 8,000 working women.

Those words sparking global outrage after Nadella spoke Thursday at a women’s technology conference. In an email to Microsoft employees just hours after the event, Nadalla said his response was wrong, adding: “I believe men and women should get equal pay for equal work.”

But Silicon Valley entrepreneur Nilofer Merchant is challenging Nadella to create a new Normal right away. That would change the industry, and you have it within your powers to do it.”

The problem is that Nadella just doesn't support his notion that if women don't ask, they'll eventually be paid the same as men. But the fact is he was smart to apologies right away, and if he can do something meaningful about this right away, he'll come out looking good and it'll be better for everyone.

Chinese officials are looking to revamp the country's tourism industry by appealing to New Yorkers. China's tourism board recently launched a new campaign to convince more Americans that the long haul flight is worth the journey.
'Visit Beijing,' a new travel documentary by a local television station, recently aired in New York. It is the latest effort by Chinese tourism officials to make Beijing an appealing holiday destination. In a 2013 tourism competitiveness report compiled by the World Economic Forum, China ranked 45th among 140 countries. Experts say China must step up its marketing strategy in order to compete with neighboring countries.
"It takes a lot of marketing dollars, a lot of promotion to attract that same visitor. And if you look around the globe and you look at the work that's being done to attract the same tourist, it's significant. People are spending money, they're in the market, they're working on the ease of entry so it's a lot of work and it takes several years to cultivate," said Chris Heywood, Senior Vice President Communications at NYC & Company.
According to China's National Tourism Administration, a little more than 2 million Americans visited China in 2013. Research firm Euromonitor says factors such as air pollution, crowded hotels and a stronger currency have diminished China's attractiveness as a tourist hotspot.
Recent changes to travel visas between the US and China, including extended validity from one year to 10 years, are expected to lure more Americans to Beijing. But distance will always be an issue.
"I think the long haul flights probably do come into consideration when Americans are looking to travel. They may be looking at a convenient destination they can get to, get on a beach in a few hours, go to an exotic destination. Some of the urban areas that are very, very far away they may think twice about," Heywood said.
With initiatives such as the Visit Beijing documentary and extensions to travel visas, China is hoping it can lure Americans out of the Big Apple and into the Forbidden City.

Childhood obesity is an international problem, and in China things are no different. Research done by the UK's University of Birmingham shows that Chinese children looked after by their grandparents are more than twice as likely to be overweight, when compared with those cared for by their parents.
Academics from the university and local officials are now engaging with grandparents in South China's city of Guangzhou to help tackle the problem.
Many grandparents in China believe that a chubby child is a healthy child.
For Liang Cuijin, there's no better way to show she loves her grandson than preparing tasty meals for him.
"I prepare the meals for my grandson every day. I cook whatever he likes," said a woman.
Dr. Li Bai, from the University of Birmingham, believes the situation requires immediate intervention.
After around 5 years' research, Dr. Li and her colleagues are now launching a special pilot project called CHIRPY Dragon at primary schools in Guangzhou.
The main target of this program is not the children, but their grandparents.
With the support of the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the team also plans to improve the nutritional quality & taste of school meals.
This program will also encourage off-campus physical activities that involve both parents and children. Thousands of children at 43 primary schools in Guangzhou city will be involved in this pilot program.
