Mexicans angry over missing students

Thousands of demonstrators marched through the streets of Mexico City Sunday to protest what they call the government's inaction in the missing student teachers case. 43 people were abducted in September by a group of corrupt police in southwestern Mexico. They were handed over to a drug gang which is suspected of murdering them and burning their bodies. The handling of the case has drawn massive criticism from the public who say more needs to be done to bring those responsible to justice. The public was further angered after the Mexican president traveled to China last week. Critics said the trip proves he cares more about the country's business interests than about curbing violence. In the past 7 years, some 100,000 people have died in violent acts linked to organised crime.

It's the latest flare-up of violence in the region, that now threatens a two month-old truce. (SOUNDBITE) (Russian) UNIDENTIFIED UKRAINIAN SOLDIER, SAYING: "The shelling's taken place all week long. At first mortars, grads, mortars, grads namely at civilians... What does it mean? Lawlessness from their side. What else could it mean? They don't fight. They don't fight. They simply destroy, they want to intimidate civilians,simply to scare civilians." One resident says the strategy is working. She says, civilians are dying. . (SOUNDBITE) (Ukrainian) UNIDENTIFIED LOCAL RESIDENT, SAYING: "They fired from here and it struck them directly. We don't know exactly from where, but it was definitely shelling. My windows were blown in and there ... a woman was buried yesterday,they killed her, she was killed. Who knows where it was fired from." Kiev fears pro-Russian separatists may be preparing to launch another offensive in the region..shattering the so-called ceasefire and plunging eastern Ukraine back into chaos.

President Xi Jinping has met senior Australian officials in the nation's capital Canberra, on Monday.
Xi was greeted by Governor-General Peter Cosgrove in an elaborate welcome ceremony, topped by a 21-gun salute. Prime Minister Tony Abbott later welcomed the president to Australia's parliament. The two leaders declared they will lift bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.
In a statement, Abbott said Australia has successfully completed a free-trade deal with China after nine years of negotiations. President Xi will sign the deal later Monday after he addresses the Australian Parliament. Under the deal 85 percent of all Australian exports will enter China tariff-free.
A feasibility study on such a pact, carried out in 2006, say the deal could increase the value of trade by $18 billion over a decade. The two-way flow of goods and services between the countries was valued at more than $130 billion last year.
