It started with the early morning seizure of the airport in Donetsk by pro-Russian separatists.

Ukraine's rapid military response was a direct message for Russia, and the first of what will likely be many challenges for newly elected leader Petro Poroshenko government.

At least six people died when fire swept through this bus terminal on the outskirts of Seoul. About 40 more were injured in the blaze on Monday. The complex also has shops and a cinema. The fire started in a food court area where renovations were being carried out. Fire fighters say a welding torch could be to blame although an investigation's underway to pinpoint exactly what caused it. They said most of the victims had inhaled smoke. South Korea's evolved into one of the world's most vibrant and technically advanced democracies but critics say regulatory controls and safety standards haven't kept pace.

It's another first in the rocky history of the nuclear-armed rivals who've fought three wars since independence in 1947. The event is intended to be as much a show of Modi's determination to be a key player on the global stage as a celebration of his election victory. Modi's nationalist BJP and its allies swept to power in national elections this month with a mandate for major economic reform.

Qingyuan has been one of the worst hit cities in Guangdong province by torrential rains. As the flood wore on, landslides poured into rural areas and traffic came to a standstill, schools have been forced shut.
A major downpour like this is only expected once every two hundred years. So many were caught offguard when floods emerged in 19 townships of the city. In Xiniu township, power was completely gone, telecommunication lines dead, and low rise houses inundated by rising water levels.
"I can’t do my business now. All my furniture is submerged. The flood came in before I could move them out," said a gas station manager.
In a local elementary school, over 30 students were left stranded in their classrooms.
"All the village roads are intraversable. Classes are now over. But we don’t know how to send students home," said a teacher of Chimi elementary school.
The tide of events turned tragic for one family. Local police reported that a pregnant woman trapped by the flood had gone into labor. Their rescue efforts unfortunately came too late when they found her—as her water had already broke. By the time the expectant mother was rushed to hospital, she was already dehydrated and in a state of high blood pressure. Doctors were unable to save her unborn baby.
By Friday, some 400,000 local residents in Qingyuan city have been affected. One person was reported missing and one pronounced dead. As the rain subsides, it leaves behind a city submerged with direct economic losses over a billion yuan.

China’s JD.com made quite a debut Thursday on the Nasdaq -- proving investor appetite for Chinese tech stocks is far from satisfied. Now the market is waiting for the biggie -- Alibaba, JD’s larger rival in the ecommerce space.
10%, is how much Chinese ecommerce firm JD.com shares rose on debut at the Nasdaq, closing at 20.90 dollars per share, putting the online retailer’s market value at 28.6 billion US dollars.
JD.com’s listing might foretell good fortunes for the other Chinese tech IPOs, including the share sale for JD.com rival Alibaba that could raise up to 20 billion US dollars.
While JD.com has yet to make money in its ten year history, it hopes to break even this year and is diversifying.
JD.com’s listing gained attention because it ranks no.2 in China’s online retail market -- the leader, Alibaba -- is still getting ready for its US IPO. China’s online retail business increased 42.8% year on year in 2013 -- JD has about a quarter, while Alibaba’s Tmall has about half.
